A civil local court in Madhya Pradesh has the directed police to register a case against actor Aamir Khan, filmmaker Raju Hirani and producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra for publishing a controversial poster depicting Aamir Khan in the nude with regard to the release of their film, PK.
The directives were given yesterday by Judicial Magistrate, R. D. Deharia to the Aadhartal Police Station in-charge over the complaint filed by advocate Amit Sahu. The court also directed the police to register a case against Film and Television Producer Guild President, Mukesh Bhatt. It also asked the police to file a complaint against the editor and publisher of three local newspapers for publishing the poster.
The complainant termed the poster as “obscene, indecent and unreasonable” and said that the poster comes under the category of the indecent. Therefore a case under sections 292 and294 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) can be registered against the various parties. The court then asked the police to file a report on whether the poster in question can be classified as vulgar and fixed September 19 as the next date of hearing in the matter. Yesterday, the second poster of the film was released in Mumbai which showed Aamir dressed in traditional Rajasthani garb.
The case, filed by activist Hemant Patil, prayed for a permanent injunction from the court from releasing the film all over India with a ban on publicity and advertisement of the nude picture of Aamir Khan until such time the objectionable scenes are removed from it.
The defendants are Censor Board office bearers, actor Aamir Khan, film`s producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra and director Rajkumar Hirani.
According to the suit, the nude poster which has been released all over is vulgar and obscene and has the tendency to corrupt the minds of the people. This poster is being shown in newspapers and television and also on internet since last one month, the plaintiff claimed.
The plaintiff said that Aamir is a good actor and a host of popular TV show `Satyamev Jayate`. He has a good and clean image in the eyes of public. However, by appearing nude in this poster for the sake of publicity, the actor had done a “shameful” act and hence he should withdraw such obscene images immediately.
The Supreme court had recently dismissed a Public Interest Litigation which sought a ban on texhibition of posters in which a semi-naked Aamir stands on rail tracks for promoting the film `PK`.
The Supremecourt was of the view, “If you don`t like then don`t watch the film but don`t bring religious facets in it,” adding that, “these are matters of art and entertainment and let them remain so.”
The director, Hirani has stated that the film will be a satire on “God and godmen”. The poster of PK Movie has been at the receiving end of a lot of attention and internet trolls. While some people are intrigued by the first look, a lot of others find ample opportunity for making memes. P.K. also features actor Sanjay Dutt, Anushka Sharma and Sushant Singh Rajput. Christmas season appears to be a spell magic for Aamir Khan‘s films and continuing with the trend, the makers of his upcoming film P.K. have decided to release it about a week before Christmas. P.K. is set for a December 19, 2014 release.
“Vinod Chopra Films and Rajkumar Hirani Films, in association with Disney India, confirm that P.K. shall release on December 19, 2014,”
