Mary Kom is just not a women but she is a superwomen. She has achieved much more than we know of. The following are just a glimpse of all her achievements.
1. The recognitions
Mary Kom has been bagging many awards from 2001 and has been recognized for this by our dignitaries. She won the Arjuna Award for boxing in 2004 and went on to win the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratnam Award in 2009. Mary Kom has also been awarded the Padma Shree in 2006. The Manipur government has decided to name the road lining the Manipur Sports Village as Mary Kom road and has made her the Additional Superintendent of Police.
2. London Olympics
Mary Kom was the only Indian female boxer to be included in the 2012 Summery Olympics after qualifying for the 2012 AIBA world Women’s Boxing Championship. She settled for a bronze medal in the women’s fly category.
3. The school dropout
This world renowned pugnacious boxer was a school dropout. Mary Kom failed to clear her ninth grade exams at Adimjati High School at Imphal and quit her schooling. She later went on to complete her graduation by an external method.
4. Dingko Singh
While Mary Kom was always intruded by sports and boxing, her inspiration came in the form of her guru Dingko Singh who also hails from Manipur. She went on to get proper training after Singh’s victory in 1998 Asian Games.
5. The Academy
After winning the world championship five times, Mary Kom went on to found her own boxing academy, MC Mary Kom Boxing Academy. This regional academy in Imphal encourages the youth to choose boxing as a profession.

Mary Kom is an upcoming 2014 Indian biographical sports drama movie directed and produced by Omung Kumar and Sanjay Leela Bhansali respectively. It movie revolves around the real life story of an Indian boxer named Mary Kom, her achievements, failures and all the hard work she put in to climb the ladder of success. The lead role in the movie will be played by Priyanka Chopra and Priyanka Chopra’s husband will be played by Assamese actor Diganta Hazarika in the movie. Minakkshi Kalitaa, Shishir Sharma and Zachary Coffin will also be seen sharing the screen space with Priyanka Chopra.
The basic plot of the movie about the ups and down of Mary Kom’s life. It is reported that Priyanka Chopra has done a lot of hard work for this movie. She visited Mary Kom’s hometown Manipur to learn more about Mary Kom and she had to go through extensive training to fit into the role of a boxer. She has to look from a dazzling Diva to a middle class strong headed boxer. And we must all agree she pulled of the look pretty well. The trailer lasts for a good 2.54sec. The trailer features Priyanka Chopra fighting with the boys in her area and her determination to become a boxer even after facing mockery from many people ad how she falls in love and gets married to the boy who supported her. Ajit Andhare, COO Viacom 18, seemed over whelmed with the response and quoting his happiness he said, “We’re thrilled with the astounding response to the poster and teaser which we had titled ‘Mary Kom Punch’ these have set us up very well for the trailer, which will be out later this week. We’ve titled the trailer ‘Mary Kom knock-out’”. The director also seemed very pleased and stated “After a long time there has been a frenzy of this sort surrounding the release of a poster. It felt good to hear all the fabulous comments. We had to live up to people’s expectations with the teaser also. I think we succeeded in doing so. Now we have the trailer coming up. I am very excited. It’s been a long wait for me and love to see mary kom movie reviews. I can finally showcase my work to the world.” Well yes, the poster is really eye catching and raw. Priyanka looks astonishingly stormy, fierce and tempestuous. She resembles the boxer very closely. The movie releases on September 5th 2014.
