No more Shivgarh. No more Goa Police. Bajirao Singham is back as the new Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mumbai. Actor Ajay Devgn is back in the character with Singham Returns, the sequel to his 2011 blockbuster Singham.
The film, directed by Rohit Shetty, will see him again in the role of a supercop Bajirao Singham, battling goons and political parties to eradicate the problem of black money. Says a source associated with the film, “The issue of black money is in the news now more than ever. So, the audience will easily connect with it.”
Conspicuous by her absence is Kajal Agarwal, the love interest of Ajay Devgan. The actress, who played Kavya in the original flick is not to be seen anywhere in the trailer. Apparently, even supercops have breakups. But Singham doesn’t need to worry, as he has found a new girlfriend in the new movie. Kareena Kapoor Khan plays the lead in the next instalment of Singham. Sources tell us that the part of the lead actress was changed, keeping Kareena’s status of an A-list actress in mind. Let us see how they incorporate the new romantic angle in the movie. And whether Kareena can carry off a role of a Marathi mulgi, remains to be seen. But knowing Kareena, and her versatility, we can surely place our money on her coming out of this test with flying colours.
Rohit, Ajay and Kareena earlier came together with “Golmaal returns” which went on to become a superhit. Now, it’ll be interesting to see if the trio manages to spell the magic again.
Also, the original Singham became a roaring hit owing to a superlative performance by Prakash Raj as Jayakant Shikre. People are surely going to miss him and his antics (read-ego). The new antagonist (Amole Gupte) has an uphill battle on hand. How will he fare? Only time will tell.
The music of the movie is the same as the first one. The makers didn’t even take the effort to remix the original soundtrack. It’s the absolute same song. Way to cut budgets whilst making a sequel. Wait, does that mean we will have that horrendous “Maula Maula Re” song again? Damn!
Rohit Shetty does know a thing or two about giving the audience what it needs, and even Singham Returns movie is no exception. There are a lot of crowd pleasing dialogues in the movie which will generate a lot of whistles for the front row audience. Bajirao’s classic one liner- “Jisme hai dum, toh fakt Bajirao Singham”, makes a return in this sequel too.
In the trailer, a bomb goes off in the middle of a hoard of journalists. Maybe this is what Rohit Shetty wants to do with them, after they relentlessly trash his movies, and this is his way of getting back to them.
The film has been co-produced by Ajay Devgn Films, Rohit Shetty Productions and Reliance Entertainment. Singham Returns opens on Independence Day, 15th August.
